Japan-China Find Cooperation Amid High Gas Prices (Jun 24)
Adversity. It brings out the best in us. High gas prices are being felt the world over. And a result of those prices is Japan and China are working together (how often do we get to hear those words?) to explore for more natural gas in the East China sea.Chinese hate Japanese and no why. It's the history or more precisely Japan's avoiding any discussion of the matter. Japanese don't know why the Chinese hate them. See my first sentence.sea.of.cooperation.jpgStill, it's a good thing when these two main players in Far East Japan cooperate on any project.Alas...there are treaties and agreements up the wazoo “to protect each other’s legal positions till a demarcation line is set.” Everything is fine until they find something.

Chinese Style Sex and the City (Jun 22)
Sex and the City premiered in Taipei yesterday. The girls were decked out in high fashion and the party was on.  Julie Lin, Kate Wong, Liya Wong, and Shatina Chen, all supermodels impersonated the stars of the SATC cast in a mini skit, um, skirt.

Hong Kong Mom Throws Baby Out, Keeps Bath Water (Jun 19)
I have heard of not throwing the baby out with the bath water. But, what about the mom who threw the baby out without the bath water?
snakebaby.jpgA 31-year old mom in Hong Kong was arrested on suspicion of infanticide for tossing her brand spanking new baby out the window of her apartment. Passers-by found the baby lying on the ground...dead. Police arrested the mom and are investigating the cause of death. How about we throw the mom out the window and see what she dies of?My wife and I have a newborn, and I can't imagine. What people will do to other people escapes me sometimes...okay, often.source

Balance of Nature in China (Jun 19)
It is not always the foolish humans that drive animals out of their natural habitats. Mother Nature (if you believe that sort of thing) can do it, too.  I have a different take on the whole Mother Nature term that is beyond the scope of this post.A May 12th earthquake in the mountains of Sichuan Province devastated some of the natural habitats of the wolves that live in that same region.  Since the earthquake only about 10 wolves have been sighted. The government has dispatched observation teams. Search teams? How about they dress a bunch of little girls up in red hoods and send them to grandmas in the area? That should bring the wolves out.
wolf.china.jpg One researcher said, "The wild animals live in the remote and deep mountainous area, and are scared after the earthquake, so they go out of the deep mountains." Question - in the whole balance of nature scenario, shouldn't this earthquake sends wolves packing thing be considered a good thing overall? I think so. What do you think?  source  ...

Samsung and Bosch Chase Toyota, Honda and Nissan (Jun 18)
Germany's Robert Bosch GmbH is the largest parts maker in the world and Samsung is, well, um, Samsung.  Bosch and Samsung have agreed to collaborate to develop the next-generation batteries for hybrid cars.  The arrangement is a 50-50 joint venture. The two giants will together spend some $500 million over the next five years. Their goal is to improve on the lithium ion battery for hybrids and sell them to GM, Ford Motor, Hyundai and other takers. In short, the two companies will spend the next five years chasing Toyota, working with Matsushita Electric and Nissan, working in a partnership with NEC Corp. Five years from now, Toyota will have set a new standard in the industry.lithium-ion-battery.jpg Samsung/Bosch want to bring down the costs of the hybrid car batteries and in turn bring down the overall costs of the more eco-friendly hybrid cars. Hybrids go for as much as $5000 more than their fossil fuel gas hogging counterparts. Hybrids are better on the environment but not on the wallets of consumers...
